THE TOWN OF SARATOGA REVALUATION PROJECT
The Assessor’s Office for the Town of Saratoga announces a Revaluation Project
for the 2012 Assessment Roll. The objective of the project is to regain equity
in the town’s assessments and update inventory and property data to the best of
our abilities. The process to complete this project follows:
Step 1 Inventory Data Mailers will be sent to residential property owners in the
Town during the
week of June 13th. Property owners are asked to review this information and
respond to the assessor’s office with corrections by July 10, 2011. Data
received will be updated accordingly.
Step 2 Field Review – Properties will be reviewed from the road and/or driveways
of parcels in order to verify that data on record is in existence and to update
photographs as necessary. This field review will happen from mid-July until late
September. The vehicle used by the assessor to determine data will be marked
with “Assessor’s Office” magnets on side so town property owners will know that
the vehicle is part of this project.
Step 3 Valuation – Once data is correct, the process of determining value of all
properties will be completed.
Step 4 Change of Assessment notices will be sent in early February which will
show the new assessment and tax consequences based on the previous year’s tax
levy’s. Opportunity is then available for persons to meet with the Assessor in
an “Informal Hearing” to discuss the new assessed value.
Step 5 The Tentative Roll will be filed by May 1st. Property owners still not
pleased with their value have the opportunity to grieve their assessment on
Grievance Day at the end of May, 2012.
Step 6 The Final Roll is filed by July 1st which will use all the new values
from the revaluation project along with any changes made by the Grievance Board.
Exemption renewal forms will be mailed to Town residents in mid-December. If you would like to fill out and turn in your renewal form earlier, forms may be obtained at the Assessor’s Office or by accessing the State Office of Real Property Service (ORPS) website @ www.orps.state.ny.us and clicking on forms.
